FINNISH YOUR FOOD: FISKEN PÅ DISKEN

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted anything, so I felt it appropriate to return with a “gone fishin'” or rather a “been fishin'” entry.

The menu at Fisken på Disken is a treasure trove of net-worthy dishes waiting to be served up fresh, daily.

My “mermeal” fantasy began with a deep dive into some “AHOYsters” and ended with me all cozied up on a little “Dessert Island” of white chocolate and birch (see image above).

KYMÈ-MORE KYMÈ-MORE GIVE-ME KYMÈMCAFE!

Once in a blue-moon you stumble across a place so phenomenal and uniquely magically that it leaves you speechless, breathless and wholly satisfied beyond belief (food, drink, ambiance and otherwise)—without hope nor want for anything more and certainly for nothing less. I call it the “KYMÈMCAFE Effect”.

A mere stone’s throw from civilization (it’s near the “Gare” -French for station, as in train station) and yet it gives off a true impression of being a beautifully kept secret-like-art-filled “Garden of Eatin'” with food so delicious you’ll want to board the next plane or train  in search of it.  Here’s a clue: you’ll find it in the “vevey” beautiful town of Vevey, Switzerland.

FINNISH YOUR FOOD: GAIJIN

Perhaps the best tasting menu I have ever experienced.  Emphasis on best and ever.  But as at least three of the Gaijin menu items have changed since I was last there.  Perhaps it’s time I reacquaint my native tongue with some new and foreign tastes, buds.

COMMUNAL DINING IS SO SOHO: MERCER KITCHEN

Purveyor of fine food.  Mercer Kitchen is a place I like to pop into whenever I am in New York –  some love it, others not so much — but that’s immaterial.  What matters most is that no matter how hot the kitchen gets – there’s room for you at the table.

FINNISH YOUR FOOD: JUURI

Your honor, the “Juuri” has deliberated.  And all are in favor of Finnish Sapas: big flavors served up in small portions.  The menu has changed since I visited.  But I suspect they’re still making food so good, it should be considered a crime.

FINNISH YOUR FOOD: BRONDA

I don’t know about you, but I tend to be appreciative of food that “brings me to my senses”.  That’s to say, I enjoy when food sounds good reading it off the menu, tastes as good as it looks and smells when it is served and leaves me feeling satisfied not stuffed once the full experience (and the bill) have been settled.  My experience at Bronda was, in a word and every sense, fulfilling.

FINNISH YOUR FOOD: SUSHIBAR + WINE

Not everyone thinks of Finland when they think of Sushi, but I do.  I especially think of Sushibar + Wine’s grilled “siika”, a distinct species of whitefish found in Finland, sprinkled with sesame seeds and served with ponzu sauce.
